I know motherhood is exhausting, and sometimes stressful! At Sugar Divas Photography, I make the hassle of cake smash portraits easier by planning all the details from set design, cake design and can also offer outfit selections! I offer both indoor and outdoor session types. With each cake smash session, I set up fully customized indoor sets or can offer outdoor sets during good weather months.

Questions:
When should I book cake smash portraits?
The easy thing about cake smash portraits is that you have an entire YEAR to plan it! There really isn’t a “sweet spot” when choosing WHEN to book, but I recommend locking in your preferred photography date as soon possible. Your preferred date should be NEAR your baby’s first birthday. If you want the photos to be completed and have time for printing images or to use for your baby’s first birthday party invitations, you will want to book ahead and give at least two months between your session date and your baby’s scheduled birthday. This allows me time to edit and deliver your online gallery.
What should I do to prepare for our session?
Prior to your session, I recommend feeding baby, and make sure they have just had a good nap. If your baby has separation anxieties, or gets fussy when you are not close by or around strangers, it may be helpful to acclimate baby to this situation beforehand. I can also schedule a meet up a couple times prior to your session to meet you and your little one so that come session time, baby will be more comfortable with me.
What if my baby doesn’t want to touch the cake?
Don’t worry, this is very common & happens often. However, there are ways to help this beforehand. You can try to introduce your little one to frosting ahead of our session, if you baby is ready to eat solid foods and this is something you are comfortable with. Most babies do not like the texture of frosting, so I also keep a small wooden spoons and other baby safe handheld props on hand the baby can use to mash the cake with. If your baby STILL isn’t crazy about all that squishy sweet stuff, no worries! We can smash open that cake to see if your baby prefers that soft spongy cake inside!
Do I need to provide outfits for my baby?
For my sessions, I prefer to provide outfits that coordinate with your set, if you select this option, saving you the hassle and expense. However, if you would like to use outfits you provide also, you are free to do so. Just be sure to send me photos of the outfits once you order it, well in advance of our session (at least three weeks) so that I can be sure to use props and backdrops that will pair well with your outfits you’ve chosen. I also offer a custom tutu outfit option if you, where I can custom create a tutu outfit for your session for the girlies!
